Majsta visited this year’s BalCCon (Balkan Computer Congress) and in an informal talk at Once Upon a Byte’s Retro Computer Assembly revealed all of the details that he and the Apollo team had to go trough to get a working FPGA accelerator. He also reveals the plans for the upcoming Vampire 1200 accelerator.
BlackBerry Vienna goes to Mercury in latest leaks
Just after the Priv launched we got some renders of a purported device dubbed the BlackBerry Vienna. Heralding from the lineage of devices like the Venice which subsequently turned into the Priv, a new leaked device code-named Mercury has shown up online in some unflattering images showing an early revision of the hardware that we’ll likely see launched to end BlackBerry’s fiscal year in calendar Q1 of 2017. The AmigaONE X5000 is the latest PowerPC based computer developed by A-EON Technology. The new board, codenamed Cyrus Plus, will be an eventual replacement for the Nemo (AmigaONE X1000) board. A-EON technology, have once again commissioned Ultra Varisys to develop a new high-end, prestige platform specifically created to run the AmigaOS 4.1, although it also supports a number of other PowerPC operating systems such as Ubuntu and Debian etc. The Cyrus Plus board is designed around Freescale’s QorlQ P5 64-bit PowerPC CPU SoC range. These high performance, low power-consumption multi-core CPUs contain 64-bit e5500 cores manufactured in 45 nm process technology.

As you probably know the Cyrus boards have been in stock for quite some time with new shipments of boards arriving from Ultra Varisys almost weekly. We are just waiting for the final release version of AmigaOS 4.1 from Hyperion Entertainment and then we will be good to start shipping new AmigaOne X5000/20 systems.
As with the AmigaOne X1000 “First Contact” system we will release an “early bird” model, this time entitled “Close Encounters” which we be supplied with the first version of AmigaOS 4.1 specifically configured by Hyperion Entertainment for the AmigaOne X5000.The growing tower of CyrusAgain, as with the AmigaOne x1000, regular updates of X5000 specific drivers and other software bug fixes will be released for download as soon as they become available. So if you are an experienced Amigan and like to tinker with your AmigaOS installation then the “Close Encounters” release of the AmigaOne X5000 is definitely one for you.
